Outburst is excited to partner with the Irish language festival Liú Lúnasa to kick off our first event in Are You On the Bus?, our Belfast 2024 project in partnership with Kabosh and Paperxclips!
TAILS OF THE CITY is a series of essays by queer writers and thinkers based in Belfast and beyond, that explores queer experiences of The City and urban life from different perspectives. We’ll be releasing four of these specially commissioned booklets between now and the festival in November.
Our first booklet is Faiteach – Aiteach (Shy – Queer) and will be launched at this special Outburst Salon event looking at the connections between queer experience and Irish language.
Cá mhéad den tuiscint atá againn ar cé muid féin agus cárb as dúinn a bhaineann leis an teanga a labhraíonn muid?
In Faiteach – Aiteach, scrúdaíonn an cainteoir dúchais agus an scríbhneoir Gaeilge Dónall Mac Giolla Chóill, a rugadh i nDún na nGall, le brí fhileata, an t-eispéireas aerach mar a bhaineann le haistriú ón tuath chuig lárionad uirbeach agus na naisc idir feiceálacht an aiteachais agus feiceálacht na Gaeilge i gcathair Bhéal Feirste.
How much of our understanding of who we are and where we are from is related to the language that we speak?
In Faiteach – Aiteach Donegal-born native speaker and writer Dónall Mac Giolla Chóill examines, with poetic poignancy, the rural-to-urban gay experience and the connections between queer visibility and Irish language visibility in the city of Belfast
Please note that this event will be in Irish.
Admission to the event includes a drink and a copy of Faiteach – Aiteach
