Originated by CCA, booksVcigarettes is a reading group that creates an informal and friendly atmosphere in which to explore challenging and compelling texts and ideas.

Taking its name from George Orwell’s essay that assessed the price and value of reading against other pursuits, the focus of Outburst’s events in partnership with CCA is queer thinking and ideas. We read and discuss one short essay or book chapter out loud as a group and share thoughts as we go. No need to prepare or read before – just turn up and we’ll read together.

For the festival edition we’ve chosen Stone Butch Blues, Leslie Feinberg’s 1993 classic ground breaking novel about American white working class butch lesbian identity that resonates strongly in relation to contemporary complexities of gender and sexuality. Everyone welcome.
